2020 Vision for Warwick District
The Warwick Partnership was formed in October 2003. Its aim
is to bring together the main agencies (police, health, district
and county councils) with the business and community and voluntary
sectors to foster joint action. This will look to improve the quality
of life for people living and working in Warwick District.
The Warwick Partnership’s core task is to develop the new
Community Strategy for the district which will set out a long term
vision and key priorities. The Community Strategy is an important
collection of ideas and actions that relate to key issues and services
which affect the lives of all people in Warwick district. It also
seeks to be the ‘umbrella’ under which all other important
local plans and strategies sit. This will ensure service providers
are working towards common aims and objectives and are making the
best use of resources. It won’t be just another pile of print
designed to impress and gather dust!
The Partnership operates with a Partnership Board and Executive
Group. In addition there are a series of working groups focusing
on specific themes e.g. health, community safety, culture etc. The
Community and Voluntary Sector Forum (formed in September 2003)
has 11 community representatives on the Board which provides the
Warwick Partnership with a strong community focus.
Since January, the Warwick Partnership has been gathering views
and information from a number of sources. These include partners,
themed working groups and their networks and voluntary and community
groups to help towards developing ‘ways forward’.
It’s not a case of starting from scratch however –
the new community strategy will build on the achievements of the
first community plan 2001 – 2003. Extensive consultation took
place in creating the first Plan which sought to address issues
raised by local people and work towards a common vision…’We
want Warwick District to be safe, healthy, fair and prosperous now
and into the future’.
This vision will continue on into the new strategy. It will also
set long term objectives which look beyond the next decade. Currently
the district and county councils, police, health and the Council
for Voluntary Service are considering these objectives as the framework
for creating specific local actions.
The Chair of the Warwick Partnership Board, local businessman,
Keir Macdonald, says "I feel it important to bring clear vision
into the community planning process. Our plan must have strong clear
strategic objectives that everyone can subscribe to and achieve.
We have an enviable track record of success in Warwick District
and to ensure that this continues we must be imaginative, innovative,
courageous and far sighted. It is our role to ensure that the success
is shared by all and is gifted to future generations".
Once agreed, consultation of and participation from a much wider
range of people will take place during the summer. This will transform
these broad, cross cutting objectives into meaningful actions that
will benefit distinct communities in the district. The new Community
Strategy will be launched in Autumn this year.
The Community Strategy is a ‘work in progress’. The
Warwick Partnership will be responsible for checking that the actions
relating to the Strategy are happening and are having the desired
effect. The Partnership will also ensure that the Strategy is reviewed
to bring in new ideas and initiatives resulting from future public
consultation.
